Appleton Estate Reserve Rum Jamaica-96 points

Chairman’s Trophy

“Eye-catching chestnut color; flawless purity. Integrated, lean notes of molasses, spice, tree bark and nut. Creamy and honeyed at entry, then the taste detonates into an explosion of cocoa, vanilla and baked fruits. One of the great spirits of the world.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Vizcaya VXOP Cask 21 Years Old Rum Dominican-95 points

Finalist

“Beautiful copper/bronze color; impeccable clarity. Firm, straightforward aroma that is chockfull of molasses and citrus notes in the first sniffs, then the bouquet expands to include wood plank and tree sap. Flavor is delightfully highlighted by spicy pepper and brown sugar tastes.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Banks Endeavour Limited Edition I Rum West Indies-94 points

Finalist

“Bronze/burnished orange color. Vibrant aromas of dried fruits, old leather/men’s club, tree bark and herbs make for enchanting sniffing. Taste profile is deep and complex, showing off nicely fused flavors of oak, winter holiday cake spices and caramel.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Banks 7 Golden Age Rum West Indies-94 points

Finalist

“Pretty orange/bronze color. Highly evocative spicy and sea breeze-like aromas bring to mind the tropics. In the mouth, the flavors merge into a unified taste that exhibits roots, tree bark and cooking spices (thyme, sage). Big-textured finish.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Banks 5 Island Rum West Indies-94 points

Finalist

“Pristine clarity. Compelling aromas of wood sap, egg cream and spice delight the olfactory sense. Flavor profile is jam-packed with cinnamon, vanilla, molasses and prune tastes that ignite the taste buds. Creamy aftertaste.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Appleton Estate 12 Years Old Rum Jamaica-93 points

Finalist

“Pure amber color. Intriguing, gentle scents include palm oil, oaky resin, nutmeg and almond paste that appear in delicate waves. Tastes of brown sugar and honey, in particular at midpalate, then in the finish there is a suppleness that is bedazzling.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Bacardi 8 Rum United States-93 points

Finalist

“Warm harvest gold color. Scent offers clean, off-dry and sensuous aromas of cake frosting, vanilla bean and caramelized onion. All the pleasing aspects of the bouquet show up in the flavor profile plus a deft touch of winey sherry to complete the experience. Sophisticated, delicious.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

J. Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum Jamaica-93 point

Finalist

“Clear and clean. Surprisingly, the aroma is expectedly spirity and caney/grassy but hardly aggressive or harsh. On palate, the spirit does set off fire alarms, but again there’s a sugarcane/vegetal quality to it that’s becoming and real.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman
