February 22 is National Margarita Day, so of course we’re gonna have a margarita recipe this week.
Sure, this isn’t a “traditional” margarita, but who doesn’t like churros? The tequila blends well with the Licor 43 and Irish Creme, replacing lime juice, and Tuaca is a nice substitute for triple sec.
Ever wonder where the margarita came from?
Herrera created the cocktail for one of his customers -- a beautiful show girl and aspiring actress, Marjorie King -- who was allergic to all hard alcohol except tequila. She didn’t enjoy tequila alone, so Herrera started to experiment with different combinations to make the beverage more palatable. The most delicious combination mixed white tequila with lime juice, shaved ice, triple sec and, surprisingly, salt. Herrera named his concoction “Margarita” in honor of his muse, Marjorie.
