Del Maguey Vida Single Village Mezcal de Oaxaca Mexico

Chairman’s Trophy-92 points

“Earthy aromas of fresh green herbs and dusty roadsides announce a rustic expressiveness; smoked fruit, a touch of smoldering rubber and lemon and lime pull together the classic Oaxacan profile.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Mano Negra Tobala Mezcal Mexico

Finalist-91 points

“Smoked chiles and a sugar cane sweetness emerge first from this muscular mescal, succeeded by a bit of brine; the flavors are rich with over-ripe fruit and a sweet sootiness characteristic of classic mezcal. Finishes briney and assertive.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Sombra Mezcal United States

Finalist-91 points

“A potent combination of smoke and ripe fruit, this mezcal is expressive of the rusticity and earthiness expected from great mezcal. Riveting acid finishes the smoked fruit and green herb flavors.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

El Tinieblo Joven Mezcal Mexico

Finalist-90 points

“A blast of sweet smokiness erupts from this youthful mezcal, with a clean and refreshing limeiness and a satisfying pulse of earthiness. Expressive and evolved.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Los Amantes Reposado Mezcal Mexico

Finalist-90 points

“Benchmark smoldering smokiness lead the aromas, while the palate finds a creamy and lemony balance to a authentically Oaxacan sootiness. Finishes with massive smoke but a mouth-watering and lingering finish.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman

Pierde Almas Tobala Joven Mezcal Mexico

Finalist-90 points

“Earthy brineyness and smokey aromas erupt; flavors of smoked peaches and candy corn merge with a creamy mouthfeel for a generous and potent finish.”-Paul Pacult, UBC Chairman
