The season to eat, drink and be merry is nearly upon us. We thought we’d pay tribute to Thanksgiving in the way we know best and give you all your favorite parts of the traditional feast with a twist -- in liquid form. Yes, we’re taking a “liquid lunch” literally with our collection of cocktails for Thanksgiving. Once the inevitable family drama starts and you’re going crazy fielding questions about when you’re going to settle down, get married or have kids etc etc, we know you’ll thank us for it.
1 fresh cherry
1 ounce Amaretto
1/2 ounce apple cider
3 sage leaves
1 pinch of saffron
1 tsp brown sugar
2 orange twists
1 tsp orange zest
1 1/3 ounce Wild Turkey Bourbon
1. Slice cherry from top to bottom five times around pit, and soak in a cup containing Amaretto.
2. Muddle cider, sage, saffron, brown sugar, orange twists and zest together in glass.
3. Add Wild Turkey Bourbon and stir.
4. Strain and serve over ice. Garnish with Amaretto-soaked cherry.
Sides: Potatoes and cranberry sauce
A turkey just isn’t the same without all the trimmings. So, how about we pass you a helping of potatoes with a serving of sweet cranberries? Distilled potato water, that is, in the form of potato vodka, paired with cranberry juice in the form of a classic Cosmo.
You can bring a taste of Idaho to the table with American potato-based vodkas Teton GLACIER and Blue Ice American Vodka, or enjoy a piece of Long Island with LiV Vodka. Alternatively, polish off some Polish potatoes with Chopin Vodka, Luksusova or Ultimat Vodka. And if you can’t find potato vodka, you can always sub in a corn-based vodka such as Rain Vodka, Prairie Organic, Heartland Distillers’ Indiana Vodka or Telluride Vodka for a side of creamy corn.
2 ounces potato vodka
1 ounce Cointreau
1 ounce cranberry juice
½ ounce fresh lime juice
1. Place ingredients in a shaker filled with ice.
2. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass.
Dessert: Pumpkin pie
End your feast on a sweet note with a seasonal favorite: pumpkin pie. Turning this dessert into a cocktail is, well, easy as pie. Simply drop in some Hiram Walker's Pumpkin Spice Liqueur, which is like pumpkin pie distilled, complete with flavors of graham cracker, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Or seek out Pumpkin Pie Artisan Vodka from Modern Spirits Vodka and use it as a base for creamy drinks. If you’ve made like Martha Stewart and baked your own pie, you can use leftover pumpkin puree or canned pumpkin in cold, blended cocktails. We’re going with Pumpkin Chai, a hot and easy option – always a winner when it comes to the Thanksgiving feast! Now all you need to do is mix, drink, sleep, and repeat.
